Practice started last Monday at Joe Popp stadium for the upcoming football season.  Only months ago, we came off the first ever spring football season in North Carolina history.  The blue devils did not have the year they wanted but nevertheless, it was great to be able to just play the game of football.

Tempers were short in the winter/spring season mostly due to confusion from COVID.  The team was also dealing with a new offense and defense, and the seniors were with their third coach in 4 years.

Today is much different.  The mood has changed, and the outlook is positive.  This team is far more focused than blue devil teams of the past.  These student athletes know coaches will be there for them in the future, what their class schedule is like, and what will happen if COVID sets back in.

Throughout the week there was a lot of excitement on the field.  Coaches yelling aloud… alternatively, being cut off by a sudden cheer from the entire defense making a stellar play.  Or that new varsity junior stepping up to make a big reception followed by a touchdown and a “YESSSSIRRRR”

Saturday marked the first day of hitting and it was on from there.  Rain held off somehow and the Mooresville blue were able to get a quality practice in.

Practice continued this week and entertained a mid-week scrimmage up at West Forsyth on Wednesday evening.  Per reports on the internet the estimated final score of the match was 10-0 blue devils.

Feedback from the trip was good.  Players realized situations where they can get better and are already planning on applying what they learned for tonight.

It is a much more normal feeling out there.  Granted everyone was at a disadvantage last season, it really seems as though the blue devils have turned a corner rather fast, and big things are yet to come.  The biggest thing I noticed this week… the players were having FUN.  Combining all of these factors together usually is the recipe for success.

We look forward to seeing you at the stadium this evening.
